My LTTE

Let's see if they print it.
-------------------------------------------
I’m tired of everyone, from Attorney General Eric Holder to this Newspaper in it’s editorial of 3/27, of trying to generate support for a new Assault Rifle Ban.

First, assault rifles are full-automatic weapons used by military forces. You can not go down to your neighborhood gun store and buy one. The semi-automatic replicas of AK-47s that civilians can purchase can not be readily converted to full-auto. How do I know? Simple. By law, the BATFE wouldn’t approve them for sale if they were. Currently replicas are selling for over $1000.

Second, let's try to inject a bit of logic into this. I found the following statistics on the Amnesty International’s website.
http://www.amnesty.org.uk/news_details.asp?NewsID=16998
* There are an estimated 100 million AK-47s in the world.
* The Kalashnikov has been produced in at least 14 countries, across four continents.
* AK-47s are found in the state arsenal of at least 82 countries.
* An AK-47 can be bought for as little as US$30 in parts of Africa.

Why would Mexican drug cartels, financed by drug money, be using semi-automatic AKs from the US, when they could get real selective-fire AK-47 assault rifles on the open market for a lot less money?
