After years of conjecture, details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers.

First posted on a Chinese blog viewed as credible by military analysts and then translated by the naval affairs blog Information Dissemination, a recent report provides a description of an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) that can strike carriers and other U.S. vessels at a range of 2000km.

The range of the modified Dong Feng 21 missile is significant in that it covers the areas that are likely hot zones for future confrontations between U.S. and Chinese surface forces.

Take note that this comes from the U.S. Naval Institute, so it seems to be a legitimate threat.

I’m tired of everyone, from Attorney General Eric Holder to this Newspaper in it’s editorial of 3/27, of trying to generate support for a new Assault Rifle Ban.

First, assault rifles are full-automatic weapons used by military forces. You can not go down to your neighborhood gun store and buy one. The semi-automatic replicas of AK-47s that civilians can purchase can not be readily converted to full-auto. How do I know? Simple. By law, the BATFE wouldn’t approve them for sale if they were. Currently replicas are selling for over $1000.

Second, let's try to inject a bit of logic into this. I found the following statistics on the Amnesty International’s website.

* The Kalashnikov has been produced in at least 14 countries, across four continents.

Why would Mexican drug cartels, financed by drug money, be using semi-automatic AKs from the US, when they could get real selective-fire AK-47 assault rifles on the open market for a lot less money?

Buried in the fine print of Mayor Nutter's budget are plans to save hundreds of thousands of dollars with solar power trash cans.

At the opening of budget hearings, council members were curious about the mayor's plan to save more than eight hundred thousand dollars through one item in the Street Department.

The answer, provided by Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson, was a plan to deploy dozens of solar power trash compacting cans:

"It has a solar parasol on the top. And that solar parasol operates the compaction unit. Its not battery operated or plugged into anything. Its operated by the sun."

They are called sustainable litter baskets, and will replace wire baskets throughout the city. Tolson said they'll hold five times the trash through compaction, so they'll be emptied less frequently and that will reduce labor costs.

Citizens United wanted to pay for its documentary "Hillary: The Movie" to be shown on home video-on-demand, and for ads promoting the movie to be shown in key states while the former New York senator was competing with President Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Federal judges, however, said the movie should be regulated by the McCain-Feingold law.

But if the federal government can treat a movie like a political advertisement, then why not books, the justices asked.

EPA: Global Warming Threatens Public Health, Welfare

The Environmental Protection Agency sent a proposal to the White House on Friday finding that global warming is endangering the public's health and welfare, according to several sources, a move that could have far-reaching implications for the nation's economy and environment.

"This is historic news," said Frank O'Donnell, who heads the public watchdog group Clean Air Watch. "It will set the stage for the first-ever national limits on global warming pollution. And it is likely to help light a fire under Congress to get moving."

But business groups decried the move as an economic disaster.
"By moving forward with the endangerment finding on greenhouse gases, EPA is putting in motion a set of decisions that may have far-reaching unintended consequences," said Bill Kovacs, vice president of environment, technology and regulatory affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. "Specifically, once the finding is made, no matter how limited, some environmental groups will sue to make sure it is applied to all aspects of the Clean Air Act.


"This will mean that all infrastructure projects, including those under the president's stimulus initiative, will be subject to environmental review for greenhouse gases. Since not one of the projects has been subjected to that review, it is possible that the projects under the stimulus initiative will cease. This will be devastating to the economy."

Yep! Higher taxes on energy production.
Higher production costs for EVERYTHING, that will be passed on to consumers.
Combine this with higher taxes on the "rich" so that they can pay their "fair share", and the unprecedented and un-Constitutional actions being taken in the AIG curfluffle.......

AIG Bonuses

I've been wanting to post about the AIG mess, but quite frankly, I've just been overwhelmed. So, much is being circulated in the MSM and most of it is wrong.

But one thing I'm sure of:Targeting specific individuals with a special tax, after the fact, because they recieved a certain kind of income is illegal and un-Constitutional.

Article I, Section 9. states: No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

Anyway........go read this:

And they have also apparently forgotten that the document by which they derive their authority over the citizenry is itself a contract. That’s right; the US Constitution is a contract. In the broadest sense, it’s a contract where the government agrees not to be tyrannical, and the citizenry agrees not to kill them all and burn their homes to the ground. The rest of the document is really just the terms and definitions that set up that agreement, and give us a framework for knowing when it’s OK to go get grandpa’s duck hunting gun and break out the maps of greater Baltimore. And if that had occurred to Congress then I can’t believe they’d have gone through with this decision. Contracts protect them from us as well as it protects us from them. Well… at least they used to until last week anyway.

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :
Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.

Again, what if Bush had done this? Palin?

This is what myself and many others have railed about for almost a year now.
Barack Obama has never been in charge of anything!
A "community organizer".
A lawyer whose career is notable for being void of anything notable.
No notable cases, or published papers.
8 years as a Illinois State Senator with no notable legislation.
4 years as U.S. Senator from Illinois with no notable legislation.
Of course, 2 of those years were spent running for President.

He has never been in charge before, other than his own campaign.
He's always been one voice out of many.

And now he's overwhelmed!

2. Poland: missile shield "misunderstanding".
3. UK: Churchhill bust return.
4. Russia: "overcharge" button.
5. UK: insulting gifts to the Browns.
6. France: not realizing that Chirac has been out of power for two years.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.

Charging for service-related injuries would violate "a sacred trust," Veterans of Foreign Wars spokesman Joe Davis said. Davis said the move would risk private health care for veterans and their families by potentially maxing out benefits paying for costly war injury treatments.

Eleven of the most prominent veterans organizations have been lobbying Congress to oppose the idea. In the letter sent last week to the president, the groups warned that the idea "is wholly unacceptable and a total abrogation of our government's moral and legal responsibility to the men and women who have sacrificed so much."

The groups included The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Of course, those calling for an end to earmarks do in fact want an end to earmarks; but if no one else is giving theirs up, it's difficult to punish one's constituents alone.

If only there were some office holder, perhaps elected nationally, perhaps in some kind of "executive" capacity, who presided over the government and could block the excesses of congressmen with a single statement of negation. Let's call such a hypothetical power a "veto," from the Latin for "I say nay," and let us term my proposed nationally-elected presiding executive officer a "President," for lack of a better term.

Predictions

I originaly posted this on Nov. 12, 2008.
I just figured I'd commit it here for posterity.
And so we can all keep track.
As I had stated then: I hope I'm very wrong.

In the next 4 years I predict we will see the following:

The end of the Electoral College.

The 'Fairness Doctrine' and the end of most of talk radio.

Any criticism of the Obama Administration will be labeled 'racist' and therefore be considered hate speech.

The Justice Dept. will be directed to investigate anyone critical of the Administration.

The Assault Rifle Ban will be brought back, only worse.

There will be serious attempts at banning all semi-auto pistols, all weapons that can hold more than 6 rounds, hollow-point ammo.

There will be serious attempts at passing a Federal law banning concealed carry, or an attempt to eliminate concealed carry by the withholding of Federal funds.

Tax increases on anyone making over $50,000.

Taxes on Energy will result in over $5 a gallon gasoline, and skyrocketing natrual gas, heating oil and electric prices.

There will be NO offshore drilling or Clean Coal.

Health care will be socialized.

Partial-Birth Abortion bans will be overturned.

Our military will be gutted, including cancellations or serious delays of major programs such as the F-35 JSF.

The Missile Defense programs will be killed.

Gitmo will be shut down.

Terrorists will be treated like criminals with rights instead of being hunted down and killed where they are found.

We will pull out of Iraq too soon.

We will lose in Afghanistan.

The GWOT will quietly end.

We will all but abandon Israel. Meaning we will give lip-service to supporting them but won't sell weapons systems or munitions to them or back them up when they are attacked.

Israel will suffer some form of WMD attack.
Israel will strike Iran.
Israel will Nuke someone.

China will threaten Taiwan and we won't respond.

There will be a terrorist attack on US soil.

Judge Smacks Down Birther Suit


The Court went on to issue an order to show cause why another lawyer involved, who is a member of the federal bar, should not be sanctioned for filing the frivolous lawsuit. He also noticed the attorneys to show cause why they should not be required to pay the President's attorney's fees for defending against the frivolous lawsuit.

I know, I know, 5th Ammendment and all that, but this doesn't apply. It is required that he prove his eligibility to president.

His attorney's defence should consist of one of them walking into a Federal courtroom, certifing his birth certificate, and then posting it on the Whitehouse website. Hell, I can't take a day trip into Canada without showing my birth certificate to someone. And he repeatedly preaches about 'transparency in government'.
Why then is he spending obsene amounts of money defending against this? And I think this is the problem most people have with this issue.

Does he have something to hide?
If not, he sure is acting like it.
Or is this just his arrogance shining through?

The legislation has some Roman Catholic bishops threatening to shutter the country's 624 Catholic hospitals — including 11 in the Archdiocese of St. Louis — rather than comply.

Speaking in Baltimore in November at the bishops' fall meeting, Bishop Thomas Paprocki, a Chicago auxiliary bishop, took up the issue of what to do with Catholic hospitals if FOCA became law. "It would not be sufficient to withdraw our sponsorship or to sell them to someone who would perform abortions," he said. "That would be a morally unacceptable cooperation in evil."

In its last incarnation, FOCA defined abortion as a "fundamental right" that no government can "deny" or "interfere with." That language, FOCA's opponents warn, would help overturn abortion restrictions such as parental notification, laws banning certain procedures and constraints on federal funding.

The list is long. But the list of causes of the collapse of the financial system does not include the absence of universal health care, let alone of computerized medical records. What's going on? "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste," said Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. "This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not do before."

Things. Now we know what they are. The markets' recent precipitous decline is a reaction not just to the absence of any plausible bank rescue plan, but also to the suspicion that Obama sees the continuing financial crisis as usefully creating the psychological conditions -- the sense of crisis bordering on fear-itself panic -- for enacting his "Big Bang" agenda to federalize and/or socialize health care, education and energy, the commanding heights of post-industrial society.

Medical Bankruptcies: A Data-Check

“The cost of health care now causes a bankruptcy in America every thirty seconds," Obama said at the opening of his White House forum on health care reform. The problem: That claim, based on a 2001 survey, is simply unsupportable.


The figure comes from a 2005 Harvard University study saying that 54 percent of bankruptcies in 2001 were caused by health expenses. We reviewed it internally and knocked it down at the time; an academic reviewer did the same in 2006. Recalculating Harvard’s own data, he came up with a far lower figure – 17 percent.

A good part of the problem is definitional. The Harvard report claims to measure the extent to which medical costs are “the cause” of bankruptcies. In reality its survey asked if these costs were “a reason” – potentially one of many – for such bankruptcies.

Beyond those who gave medical costs as “a reason,” the Harvard researchers chose to add in any bankruptcy filers who had at least $1,000 in unreimbursed medical expenses in the previous two years. Given deductibles and copays, that’s a heck of a lot of people.

Moreover, Harvard’s definition of “medical” expenses includes situations that aren’t necessarily medical in common parlance, e.g., a gambling problem, or the death of a family member. If your main wage-earning spouse gets hit by a bus and dies, and you have to file, that’s included as a “medical bankruptcy.”

Cigarette paradox: Raise taxes, lower revenue

An odd thing happened the last time New Jersey raised its cigarette tax: It lost money.

Really? REALLY? ODD? You raise the tax on something and people buy less of it....Hmmmm?
That is odd. Dumbass.

Pennsylvania also saw revenues fall when it last raised cigarette taxes.

Pennsylvania, too, saw revenue slide as taxes rose. Rendell raised cigarette taxes 35 cents in 2004. At first the commonwealth saw a modest income bump, but in the first full fiscal year after the tax hike, cigarette tax revenue fell by $72 million, roughly 8 percent.
Revenue has never gotten back to fiscal 2004 levels, when the increase first hit.

Investors fled Wall Street as fear grew about the stability of the nation's largest banks and worries mounted about General Motors Corp. The major market indicators resumed their slide Thursday after a one-day rally, falling to levels not seen in more than a decade as investors contended with more disheartening economic data, new concerns about the stability of GM and ongoing uncertainty about the financial system.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 250 points, and the big indexes were all down more than 3 percent.

In his latest outreach to the legislative branch, President Obama had the leaders of congressional committee and their spouses over for dinner Wednesday night.


The menu: celery soup, mushroom crisps, steelhead salmon, saffron couscous, crispy spinach and greens, and milk chocolate velvet cake.

"We just want to say welcome on behalf of Michelle and myself. We're so glad all of you could join us," Obama told his guests.

WASHINGTON, March 4 (Reuters) - U.S. oil and natural gas producing companies should not receive federal subsidies in the form of tax breaks because their businesses contribute to global warming, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress on Wednesday.
It was one of the sharpest attacks yet on the oil and gas industry by a top Obama administration official, reinforcing the White House stance that new U.S. energy policy will focus on promoting renewable energy sources like wind and solar power and rely less on traditional fossil fuels like oil as America tackles climate change.


"We don't believe it makes sense to significantly subsidize the production and use of sources of energy (like oil and gas) that are dramatically going to add to our climate change (problem). We don't think that's good economic policy and we think changing those incentives is good for the country," Geithner told the Senate Finance Committee at a hearing on the White House's proposed budget for the 2010 spending year.

Because in the middle of a global economic crisis, with our own economy tanking, and the DOW falling to levels that we haven't seen since I was in high school, 25 FREAKING YEARS AGO! we have to do something about those 'greenhouse gases' that might (or might not), perhaps, maybe (or not) raise our average global temperature by one degree over the next 100 years. and THAT is WAAAAAAYYYYYY more important than average, everyday people being able to buy a tank of gas to... oh I don't know..... GO TO WORK!

My $0.02 On The Rush/Steele Feud

Rush is RIGHT!

I watched Rush's speech on Sat. and ended up with a sore throat from yelling and cheering too much. No, I don't agree with everything he says, but his CPAC speech was right on the money.

I've been following Steele's comments and Rush's responses, and all I have to say is that I think we're in trouble. Rush is an entertainer, that's how he makes his living and stays on the air. But how in God's name does that disqualify what he says? Rush has been making his living as a political pundit for the past 20 years, unlike Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, Natalie Maines, etc....

Rush's remarks were directed straight at conservatives! I can understand Steele wanting to distance him self from some of Rush's more acidic comments, but he went too far and played right into the Liberals hands. If the head of the RNC doesn't know and can't figure out that moderate centrism doesn't win elections and that the GOP needs get back to old style conservatism, then we are in big trouble.

Maybe it's time for a new party.

But I'll go on record right now:

Unfortunately, alot of people, TOO MANY people will believe this BULLSHIT.

Let's try to inject a bit of logic into this.

So, let's see. Why would Mexican drug cartels, financed by drug money, be using semi-automatic AKs from the US, when they could get REAL selective-fire AK-47 assault rifles on the open market?
